Short Description

Laikipia Plateau, estimated to be about 10,000 sq km or 2.5 million acres, has the biggest number of white landowners. It stretches from Mt Kenya in the east to the Rift Valley in the west. The Laikipia Maasai, who number approximately 35,000, are squashed on different patches of land, which measure about 1100 sq km or an equivalent of 281,587 acres of land. On the other hand, foreigners comprising mostly the British and American "aristocratic" class and a few influential local politically well-connected barons occupy thousands of acres of land on an individual basis. Only 20 own 74 per cent of the total land in the Laikipia District. In the Laikipia Plateau, private ranches range from "small" concerns of 5,000 acres to endless horizons of massive land properties that are over 100,000 acres. There are approximately 36 estates. Two of the 18 estates are owned by multi-millionaire Hollywood A list types who entertain tourist guests. Many of the private farms and ranches are today being converted to wildlife sanctuaries.

The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille is a community owned safari lodge located on a mount in the northern escarpment of Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau, immersed in East Africa's magnificence. Accommodation at The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille consists of: The four luxurious country houses enjoy fantastic views of the rocky peak of Mount Kenya, the Samburu sacred mountain Ol Olokwe, the Matthews Range and the Karisia Hills. The fully staffed country houses are all fully furnished and immersed in comfort. The houses are unique with each one promising a different experience. The Chiefs House enjoys fashionable African interior, including African artifacts and fabrics. The evenings can be enjoyed in conversation in front of the open fire in the living room or in the plunge pool on the outdoor deck. The master bedroom has a large open-air bathtub set among the rocks enjoying the moonlight. Ample space provides the Sultan’s House with a second bedroom if need be. The four poster bed stands lavish in the spacious house, with fine furnishings and designed in “Lamu” style (under a thatch roof with twisted papyrus), this second unit also boasts with a large sitting/dining room and a kitchen. Lovely brass-bound furniture and oriental carpets brace the two double bedrooms, sitting and dining rooms, and kitchen. With a sunken bath and a dressing room in each the house carries a certain essence of a well travelled military man. You have access to your own private open-air rock bath and views over our rocky hills in the direction of the deserts in this one bedroom house. There is a spherical bedroom with its colossal round bed and a private dining room/lounge with an open fire. This home is the Eyrie located on the top of a hill decorated in an African retro fashion. Every House has a courtyard, and a lovely garden. The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille offers many luxuries and activities. Our staff is here to please you. Dishes are eloquently prepared to suit your tastes by our International Chef. We also have a fine selection of specialized red and white wines from the southern hemisphere. A lovely stained glass club room will provide you with the selection of books and atop the library, the viewing deck offers a gaze through the GPS controlled telescope.
